Samsung to Produce Battery for Hyundai Electric Vehicles

Collaborating in the field of automobile technology for nearly six years, Samsung and Hyundai have taken a very important step to further expand their partnership. Samsung, one of the world's largest technology companies, will supply batteries for Hyundai's future electric vehicles.

Two giant firms from South Korea's territory; Samsung and Hyundai have been cooperating in automobile technology since 2014, but the partnerships of the two companies have grown even more this year. The two South Korean companies that decided to join forces last week on electric cars will also appear together in this increasingly competitive market.

Samsung, which will produce Exynos chipsets and OLED displays for Hyundai's electric cars as part of the new partnership , will also be responsible for battery supply. Hyundai will use Samsung's batteries in the luxury automotive division Genesis' first fully electric car and the KIA plug-in hybrid vehicle under its roof . The electric version of the Genesis G80, which will be released in 2021, will be fed from the South Korean technology firm. The car is reported to offer 500 kilometers driving range on a single charge . It will also support 3rd level autonomous driving technology , developed jointly by Hyundai and Samsung .

Samsung's lithium square battery is also expected to be used in Hyundai's commercial vehicle, which is scheduled to be launched two to three years later. The brand currently uses batteries from LG Chem and SK Innovation for popular electric cars such as Ioniq EV, Kona EV and Niro EV .
