Samsung Has Been Reported to Develop 250 MP ISOCELL Camera Sensor

Samsung aims to take the megapixel war on smartphones even further. It is said that the South Korean technology giant is working on a 250 MP ISOCELL sensor after the 150 MP camera sensor.

Samsung has stepped up its work since last year when it presented the 64 MP camera sensor as a rival to Sony's 48 MP sensor and used the 108 MP sensor in the next generation flagship Galaxy S20 Ultra. The company announced that it plans to develop 600 MP image sensors in the near future .

A new claim from China has suggested that Samsung has completed the production of 150 MP ISOCELL camera sensor and started developing the 250 MP ISOCELL sensor. Although the size or features of the new 250 MP sensor have not yet been announced, it is possible to be a 1 inch or larger sensor. How to fit such a large sensor into a smartphone is a mystery.

Samsung tries to stay one step ahead in megapixel war

Samsung's 64 MP S5KGW2 camera sensor is 1 / 1.72 inches, while the 108 MP S5KHM1 sensor is 1 / 1.33 inches. The company will likely use 9-in-1 Nonacell pixel grouping technology for 27 MP still images . More information is expected next year for Samsung's 250 MP ISOCELL camera sensor.

If the 250 MP ISOCELL sensor is being developed for smartphones, it can be used in one of the flagship phones of Samsung or its partner Xiaomi . It is reported that the 150 MP sensor will be used by Xiaomi for the first time this year on a flagship smartphone, while OPPO and Vivo will be used in high-end smartphones in the first half of 2021.
