NASA Introduces New Experimental Electric Plane

NASA is testing its new aircraft, which is fully electric and can carry crews. The Maxwell X-57 was viewed at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center.

When people say electric vehicles, electric cars come to mind but almost all kinds of vehicles can be made electric model. One of them is X-57 Maxwell, the new model of NASA's X-series aircraft.

Maxwell was handed over to NASA last October . The X-57, originally an Italian-made P2006T aircraft, was later modified and fully electrified. This model does not have a conventional internal combustion engine. The vehicle, called Mod II or Modification II, is the second of the three configurations NASA has ordered.

NASA's first fully electric aircraft

NASA previously shared information about the new aircraft in the simulations . This new vehicle is quieter and more effective than traditional models.

New models of this aircraft will be made in the future. Model III will follow Model IV. NASA is currently testing for these stages. In particular, NASA has tested the increase and decrease of load in a way that does not disturb the structure of the vehicle and plans to use these aircraft in the future to transport cargo and crew.

For now, there are 14  electric motors on board , and the power required for these engines is stored in lithium-ion batteries. Brent Cobleigh , NASA project manager , said in a statement that their goal is not to benefit one company, but to the whole sector. One of NASA's goals is the use of this technology by commercial businesses.

Electric airplane market is heating up

NASA is not the only institution that has been working on electric aircrafts in recent years . Previously, there were companies that plan to build planes that move between certain points, which are electric, even electric and autonomous at the same time. These organizations plan to start air taxis .

Electric planes in the future will probably be quite popular. We will keep you informed as new developments occur in this field.
