Elon Musk Announces Tesla's New Factory to Be Established in Berlin

Elon Musk announced that Tesla's 4th Gigafactory production facility will be built outside of Berlin, Germany. Gigafactory is expected to be operational by 2021.

Ella Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced on Tuesday that the company's 4th Gigafactory production plant  , which will produce lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles, will  be built outside Berlin, Germany.

Musk said in his announcement that the construction of Tesla's 3rd Gigafactory in Shanghai, China is over. It was announced last week that the 2nd Gigafactory , renewed from the SolarCity facility in New York State,  cost more than $ 800 million. Tesla's first Gigafactory was opened in Reno, Nevada in 2016, but the factory is still under construction.

Elon Musk has been saying that Tesla will build the 4th Gigafactory in Europe over the last few years. Germany's dominance over the automobile industry was probably influential in Musk's decision. Musk says he wants to build 10 or 12 Gigafactory around the world. Tesla announced in its latest earnings report that the Gigafactory to be established in Europe will be operational by 2021. The company foresees a similar date for the Shanghai plant, which will produce the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y cars .

The new Gigafactory to be established in Germany is not actually Tesla's fourth factory. The company is currently assembling all its vehicles at its former Toyota plant in Fremont, California . There is also a seat factory operating near the Fremont plant. In addition, another facility is being built in Lathrop, California.

The electric car giant's first Gigafactory in Nevada was the subject of controversy in the US this week. It is rumored that the huge facility is forcing local resources and causing problems in the region.
